Tour itinerary

Casablanca

Begin your tour of Morocco when you arrive at Casablanca Airport and are met by your Berber Treasures driver guide at the scheduled group transfer time and transferred to your Casablanca hotel. Overnight in Casablanca. NB: This tour has a Day 1 complimentary Casablanca Airport group transfer at the scheduled pick-up time. The complimentary group transfer will depart the airport: TBC – anticipated departure at approximately 2.00 pm and 5.30 pm. Please contact us with any questions about your flight arrival time*. *Private chauffeured airport transfers (and public transport options) are available for clients not joining the scheduled complimentary group airport transfer – supplemental cost applies.

Casablanca – Rabat

Morning city tour of Casablanca’s principal sights including Hassan II Mosque (exterior), La Corniche and Mohammed V Plaza. Depart Casablanca for the imperial city of Rabat, the capital of the Kingdom and a UNESCO world heritage site. In Rabat you will explore the ancient heritage of this old imperial city including Oudaya Kasbah, the Hassan Tower, the Mohammed V Mausoleum and, if time permits, the medieval Necropolis of Chellah, situated in the ruins of the Roman town of Sala Collonia. Overnight in Rabat. (Breakfast)

Rabat – Meknes – Volubilis – Fez

Continue your Morocco travel adventure visiting the UNESCO world heritage 17th century imperial city of Meknes. You can explore the sights of this old city, including the famous colossal gate of Bab el Mansour, the main entrance to the second Alaouite sultan, Moulay Ismail’s 17th century city, the massive Heri es-Souani (granaries) and the Agdal Basin (water reservoir). Before reaching Fes, travel via Moulay Idriss, Morocco’s holiest town, to the ancient Roman town of Volubilis to see Morocco’s most important Roman site which includes some marvellous mosaics and the remains of many significant buildings including the Basilica, Thermae, Temple of Jupiter, Capitol, and Triumphal Arch. Arrive to the old imperial city of Fes, the cultural and cuisine capital of Morocco. Entering the old Fes medina you enter one of the oldest medieval cities in the world. Overnight in Fes. Fez

Full-day heritage tour of Fes with your expert local Fes city guide. Visit the UNESCO world heritage old walled medina with its outstanding historic buildings such as Madrasa Bou Inania, the Kairaouine Mosque and Mihrab (exterior only), and its intriguing bazaars and souks, here you can find the Souk Attarine (spices), Souk au Henne (henna and kohl)), and Souk Ain Allou (leather souk) with its famous leather tanneries. In Fes el Jdid see the exterior of Dar el Makhzen (Royal Palace) including the enormous Marinid gate of Bab Dekakene, formerly the main entrance of the royal palace and the Mellah (old Moroccan Jewish heritage quarter). Explore Fes’ millennia-old mosaic ceramic culture and enjoy panoramic views over the old Fes medina from the late 16th century Borj Sud fortress ramparts. Overnight in Fes. (Breakfast)

Fez

This morning you visit to the late 16th century Borj Nord fortress, now home to the Armory Museum showcasing old tribal weaponry, the lovely Jnan Sbil Gardens and Dar Batha Palace. You have the rest of the day free to explore Fes at your leisure. Overnight in Fes. (Breakfast)

Fes – Ifrane (Middle Atlas Mountains) – Midelt – Eastern High Atlas Mountains – Ziz Valley & Ziz Gorge – Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)

Today travel via Ifrane, Midelt and Erfoud south to Merzouga. Turning to the south your holidays in Morocco travel into Morocco’s Middle Atlas Mountains. Your route through the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco travels via the mountain town of Ifrane passing past cedar, oak and pine forests on your way. Magnificent scenery continues to unfold before you as your Morocco tour ‘s itinerary takes you through Midelt, climbs into the eastern section of Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains and follows the Ziz River as it winds its way down through the High Atlas Mountains, watering the vast Ziz Gorge date palm groves and tumbling out into the incredible Morocco Sahara Desert. Your introduction to Morocco’s desert highlights begins with the enormous Tafilalt Oasis, an area of remarkable cultural significance, natural beauty and historic importance to Morocco. Make your way to Merzouga, a small desert Berber village situated on the edge of the spectacular Sahara Desert sand dunes known as Erg Chebbi. Tonight you stay in a traditional desert kasbah peacefully located at the fringe of the dunes. Overnight in the Merzouga/Erg Chebbi area. (Breakfast & Dinner)

Erg Chebbi: Desert Villages & Desert Camp

In the morning you visit the Merzouga oasis area, the Berber of this region are famous for their striking, flowing indigo blue robes (known as gandoras) and turbans – and perhaps not surprisingly are called the “blue men”. The Berber families here are traditionally nomads and some still live the nomad lifestyle. In Merzouga village you can share a cup of refreshing mint tea with a local Berber family and then visit the black Moroccan village of Khamlea, famous for its Gnaoua singers. Returning to your kasbah there is some time to relax before your Morocco holidays immerse you in a night straight out of the pages of a Thousand and One Nights. In the late afternoon you take a 4-wheel drive excursion through the lower dunes to the peacefully secluded eastern section of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes where you find your desert camp, blending Berber authenticity with modern comfort. Here you meet your local Berber camel train guide who will lead you on your sunset camel ride into the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert to watch the sun setting over the desert. Tonight, you’ll sleep under the stars in the heart of the Sahara in authentic comfort: Berber tents equipped with real beds and private ensuite bathrooms. Overnight at desert camp. (Breakfast & Dinner) Prefer not to ride a camel: The camel ride leaves from and returns to the camp. If you prefer not to ride a camel you can relax and enjoy the desert sunset from the camp. Non-camping Option: Overnight in the Merzouga kasbah – supplemental cost applies (subject to availability at the time of booking).

Merzouga – Todra Gorge & Oasis – Road of a Thousand Kasbahs – Skoura

You can rise early to watch the sunrise over the desert sand dunes and desert landscape. Then continuing your exploration of the Moroccan desert you visit the fossil area near Erfoud before your route turns westward as you travel to the beautiful Todra Gorge. Travelling alongside the Todra River and the marvellous Todra oasis with its extensive palm groves nestled at the base of the High Atlas Mountains you enter beautiful Todra Gorge. After exploring the Gorge on foot you continue further westward passing through the High Atlas Berber town of Boumalne Dades and travel along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through the Roses Valley. Overnight in Ouarzazate area. (Breakfast)

Skoura & Ouarzazate Oasis Villages Excursion

This morning you explore some of the lovely traditional oasis settlement of this desert region including the oasis town of Ouarzazate – formerly an old French Foreign Legion garrison – strategically situated on the crossroads of ancient desert caravan trade routes. In the Ouarzazate oasis area you can find cane weavers cutting, drying and weaving cane into all manner of products including baskets and furniture and impressive Taourit Kasbah (exterior only). At the beautiful Skoura oasis area you find one of the oldest kasbahs of the desert region – Kasbah Amridil – and discover tiny villages and kasbahs old and new set amongst lush date palm, almond, fig, pomegranate and olive groves, henna and herb gardens. Return to your accommodation for some free time. Overnight in Ouarzazate area. (Breakfast)

Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Tizi n’Tichka (High Atlas Mountains) – Marrakech

Your Sahara Desert adventure continues visiting the spectacular UNESCO world heritage ksar (kasbah village) of Ait Ben Haddou. Ait Ben Haddou has some of the Atlas region’s most exotic and best preserved Kasbahs and has featured in films including Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. Then saying farewell to the Moroccan desert you begin your journey into the soaring High Atlas Mountains. As you climb through the mountains there are stunning views at seemingly every twist and turn. Passing small scenically situated Berber Villages scattered throughout this area you cross the mountains via their highest pass, the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2260m), and are rewarded with the stunning panoramic vistas westward as you follow the steep winding descent toward the wondrous old imperial city of Marrakech, known as the Jewel of the South and a highlight of your tour. Surrounded by its millennia old red walls and with the soaring of the High Atlas Mountains acting as a dramatic backdrop, Marrakech weaves a magical spell over all who visit her. Marrakech

Full-day Marrakech city tour with your expert local Marrakech city guide. Your heritage tour of Marrakech’s stunning past allows you to immerse yourself in sights, sounds and smells of this captivating city as you explore the UNESCO world heritage old walled medina, La Bahia Palace, Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian tombs, Ben Youssef Madrassa and Djemaa El-Fna Plaza with its magicians, story tellers and snake charmers and Marrakech’s famous souks and markets. Your discovery of Marrakech continues this morning visiting la Mouassine quarter’s beautiful Dar el Bacha Palace, historic Secret Garden and Dar Menebhi Palace. You have the afternoon free to explore Marrakech at your leisure. Overnight in Marrakech. (Breakfast) Optional Cooking Class: Supplement applies – must be selected at the time of booking. Instead of joining this morning’s sightseeing, you have the option of taking a Moroccan cooking experience: Your discovery of the fabulous Moroccan culture continues this morning with a cooking class where you will prepare and share lunch.
